|JOB TITLE AND CLIENT ASSOCIATIONS: Associate Executive Director, Council on Food, Agricultural and Resource Economics (C-FARE)
POSITION REPORTS TO: Executive Director, C-FARE Consulting Partner (EDI) C-FARE Executive Board

EXEMPT/NON-EXEMPT EMPLOYEE STATUS: Exempt
GENERAL SUMMARY: Working collaboratively with the Executive Director communicates the value of economic research to decision makers in the policy arena and beyond. Assist in providing professional direction and support to all client activities, projects, and meetings.
POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES (Minimum of 37.5 hours/week):
• Work related to Congressional relations for C-FARE—plan and organize briefings, including logistics, report on C-FARE website and social media venues; attend briefings sponsored by other organizations, provide summaries to key C-FARE audiences; interact with staff of the other organizations to expand the C-FARE network;
• Congressional Hearings—attend relevant hearings, develop brief summaries for various communication uses;
• Congressional Visits—help identify Congressional Offices for visits, schedule meetings, provide bios and background on Members of Congress for those participating in visits, ensure post-visit follow-up is completed;
• Agency Relations—attend Federal agency briefings and relevant meetings; review the Federal Register for calls for Advisory Board nominations, and encourage submissions;
• Member and Profession Relations—develop and post news items regularly on-line; review on-line requests for application (RFAs) relevant to applied economics, and post the RFAs on C-FARE’s website;
• Work with other organizations—attend coalition meetings; possess a general understanding of applied economics and current policy issues as they relate to other sciences, to communicate C-FARE’s perspective to other disciplines;
• Work closely with the Executive Director on areas related to program reviews, intern/student coordination, and other areas determined in consultation with the C-FARE Board.
|EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIRED: Bachelor’s degree in agricultural or applied economics, economics, political science, or other policy-relevant discipline is required; Master’s degree is preferred. Must be knowledgeable about the policy-making process and have a good understanding and working knowledge of Capitol Hill and the key federal agencies related to food, agriculture, natural/environmental resources, and the rural economy. Must possess public relations skills and be detail oriented. Superior planning and organizational skills, both strategic and tactical, coupled with an ability to build long-term collaborative relationships to benefit C-FARE goals are vital. Excellent verbal communications skills and the ability to write clearly and persuasively are expected. Computer literacy in word processing, Excel, PowerPoint, etc., as well as social media venues, is required.
TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS: 1-2 weeks per year. Some weekend and evening work may be required.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Some packaging and lifting up to 50 pounds. Ability to move quickly and frequently within the meeting facilities.
